Design Statement
Stretching across the covers and meeting in the center is an arch, a symbol both literal and figurative from the book. The arch is made up of stones that transition from crumbling into whole, signifying the result of Genli’s mission.
The lines that are cut into the leather represent Genli and Estraven’s paths which start so differently then slowly interweave until they begin to see the person across from them for who they are and not through just their own personal and cultural lenses.
The endpages are an abstract depiction of the trek across the glacier that Estraven and Genli undertook, where they found a common ground and understanding.
